Sailing on JADEO

What to Bring

Vancouver Island from June to September frequently enjoys very pleasant and warm coastal weather. Rain is generally infrequent and of short duration with daytime maximum temperatures ranging from 20C to 33C.

Winds are frequently very light between the islands but good sailing with moderate breezes may often be found in various more open straits. The winds have a tendency to build up in the mornings until 11:00 AM and then subside during the afternoons.

Clothing should encompass enough layers for comfort through hot sun or cooler wind-blown conditions. Swimwear, sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended with lightweight rain jackets for summer showers. Non-marking soft-soled shoes are important for on board wear. Rubber water-shoes or stout sandals are recommended for using the dinghy from rocky beaches.

For shore-tours and restaurants there is seldom any local requirement for anything but casual clothing. A variety of approved life-jackets are supplied. Sufficient pillows, hand-towels, and galley linen are supplied for multi-day charters.

Good swimming conditions are found in various bays with warmer water in certain favourable tidal areas. Snorkelling is excellent although a wet-suit is recommended.
